[SYD] - Dessert at Roji Monster Ice Cream

[SYD] - Dessert at Roji Monster Ice Cream

Day 1 continued - Roji Monster

Leaving Boon Cafe, we walked around a bit to rediscover the area (and to work off the food we just ate 😅)

Walking around, we worked on familiarized ourselves with the old, the new and the familiar.

We trottered into Regent Place shopping on George street to have a look for our favourite dessert places. We saw a couple of original faces and a couple of new ones.

Walked downstairs, tempted to try the dorayaki but reminded ourselves that we were ‘too full’. We went downstairs and saw a sign that Roji Monster was having a 1 year Anniversary promotion.

Buy 1 get one Free! 😱🤩👏

How is that not a sign that we should go into Roji and try it??? (It was on our list, I hadn’t tried it before, but it looked really cute). I really like how the venue was fully decked out with wood. It gave it a nice wide space and a Japanese feel to it.

The wall art was also quite cute, kinda what you’d expect to see in a Japanese shop anime style, but Roji Monster is actually a Taiwanese chain store with strong Japanese influences I found out later!

The choices for the buy 1 get one free promotion was between the Strawberry Yogurt Ice Cream, Avocado Yogurt Ice Cream and Roji Monster Waffle. Not getting the waffle was not even an option, so it was down to the strawberry and avocado ice cream. Everyone loves strawberries...so strawberry won. 😂

I really liked the layout of the shop. It was cute, clean and the lanterns were a nice touch! They really reminded me of the Soot monsters aka Susuwatari from Spirited Away 🤣...it was so cute. ❤️

Menu:

So how you order was, order the main aka Strawberry Yogurt and you get to pick 2 sides. The choices were pinned up on the wall, with all these picture plaques on the wall. Which is pretty helpful as they had about 20 items available to choose from! 😅

The Ice cream itself wasn’t bad….had a nice creamy texture to it. The strawberry was sweet and didn’t taste artificial. I had a little bite of the Taiyaki (the little fish on the board) that wewe’d chosen as one of our sidess and found the flavour interesting. It had some adzuki (red bean) filling in it so made the “fish” taste quite sweet. I was told that this was an immensely popular street food from Japan and I could understand why! If you get the perfect ratio of red bean and crispy waffle 🤤…..its the perfect snack!.

The second side was a matcha jelly that tasted like matcha - somewhat bitter. LikeIt’s the the kind of bitterness you’d expect to get from matcha. . It was however a nice combination, sometimes you just need that little bit of bitter to settle down the sweetness of the dessert. That way you tend to get more flavours. Sometimes for myself, I find if I eat too much sweet foods, all I can taste is sweet. I like to use a bit of either savoury or salty to offset sweet and vice versa. It’s a good way (for me) to get more flavours out of food 🤤

The waffle on the other hand, was so buttery and crispy on the outside, but in the center we found small sections of it was a little bit raw. We ate around the raw bites and what we ate, we really enjoyed.

Unfortunately we found the soft serve to be a bit overpowering. It was slightly sweeter than what we’d prefer, but it was still delicious. a bit hot, a bit cold…..delicious! 🤣

Summary:

Ambience ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m glad we came and tried the Roji Yogurt ice cream, but there are so many delicious options out there, I would probably be more keen in trying different foods. The food we saw there was so aesthetically pleasing and tasty! but what we haven’t eaten and tried is also extremely exciting!

I really can’t wait to try. ❤️
